We had another incredible experience working with Habitat! Our team of thirteen dedicated and enthusiastic One Linkers arrived early on September 18^th at 542 College Avenue for a day of volunteering. It was a beautiful day to roll up your sleeves and do a little manual labour all in the name of a good cause. Our tasks varied from building window wells, to working on the basement floor and building scaffolding on the first floor of the house. Laughter could be heard all day long as our crew worked on the home. Without a doubt, it was a unique team building experience we highly recommend!

Did you know the very first Habitat families in Winnipeg moved into their homes in 1988? Since then, a total of over 275 families enjoy safe, decent and affordable housing as a result of the organization’s efforts. The selection of families for Habitat for Humanity is based on three principles: need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner. As part of the process, each homeowner must agree to 500 hours of sweat equity prior to the possession of their new home. It takes approximately 3 years from the time an application is submitted for the building of a new home to start. Once the ground is broken, it usually takes six months to complete.

For every home Habitat builds, they need to raise $175,000 to cover the material and construction costs. One hundred per cent of the money raised through their fundraising efforts goes toward the purchase of building materials and professional trades labour (electricians, plumbers etc.) required to construct a home. Habitat for Humanity relies on volunteers to aid with the general framing of the houses. That’s where teams, like ours, come in.

At One Link, our mission is helping people make their homeownership dreams a reality, so this cause is a perfect match. We are thrilled to once again have been a part of such a transformative project that supports our community in such a positive way. We are extremely pleased to announce, that thanks to our incredible team and their amazing supporters, we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised $5,445 for Habitat for Humanity Manitoba!

For our team, it was an incredible opportunity to help a family achieve their dream of becoming homeowners in Manitoba. Here is what a few of our One Link Mortgage team members had to say about the experience:
